Ranching branding session for the Tennessee Bison Ranch Lazy G.

They operate out of Cookeville, Tennessee and focus on breeding and maintaining a diverse, healthy herd. Every year they cull the herd for meat as well as hides and skulls, and try to use every part of the animal to lower waste. Lazy G also offers starter herds for anyone seeking their own bison herd.

The operators were so, so kind and took me through their entire operation from start to finish. I was lucky enough to see an early winter calf trotting behind his mother, and will be back in a few months to see their full calving season. I was able to meet their grown bottle baby steer named Chief who REALLY loves hotdog buns and will tolerate some gentle scratches around his cheeks. I also walked through their entire doctoring process using hydrolic gates and presses with bulletproof glass to keep them from breaking out and to keep them safe during doctoring.

I was also able to go out and meet all of their horses, interact with their draft horse full sisters who are nearly identical.
