THE GAL BEHIND THE lENS -
MEET ME
Hello darling, I'm Koda. I want a homestead with sheep and twelve rescue dogs and rescue horses and beehives and fresh food and so many heirlooms and books that my house is hard to navigate. I also want nothing to tie me down. I want to be able to take off on a whim, live out West, sleep by the river and fish for trout and cook it as soon as I catch it. I want to sleep in my truck and drink coffee from some random shop in New Mexico and work the reservations and walk the Appalachian trail and go to coal mining towns and talk to folks from the mines and do what I can do help with my camera. I’m a nomad, the traveling kind, but I’ve got roots that hit bedrock. I’m not sure how I’ll navigate my life, but I do know this: Love and art will be the foundation of my future.

I have a slow, honest approach that holds experiences over products. I’ve been an artist all my life, and a photographer for over eight years. I have my BFA in fine art and have won multiple photography awards- but I’m not really all about that official, notoriety bullshit. I’m a born and raised Appalachian, Tennessean, Southern, homegrown gal trying her best to understand the world and the people around me. I’m searching for truth and love and adventure and reason- and, I want you to come with me. I want to meet you, know you, love you, share with you.

Photos are more than something to decorate with. They’re edifications of fleeting, impermanence. They’re how we hold onto what we live for, breathe for, what we long for. Photos are how we show future generations love from family and friends they’ll never know. Photos are how we show future generations how we moved on from our hardest moments, how we preserved our best moments--our love.

LET'S HIT THE ROAD
I grew up on a little hunting lodge and farm in the hills of Tennessee. I have vivid memories of hauling hay, driving semi-trucks, getting bucked on horses, stampeded by buffalo, riding goats (and getting bucked off those, too), sitting in the truck with my grandpa, fishing by the pond, sitting on the tailgate for lunch, getting dirty, and staying dirty.
I have over 3ft of hair and fantasize about cutting it once a day, but I never will because I’m attached and in love with it. I think I have commitment issues- photography helps with this. I challenge myself, daily, to exist in that space where the fleeting moment and permanent action coalesce.
My crushes since I was 4-years-old have only been Rocky Balboa and Gomer Pyle.

I feel like these photos are going to be some that someone finds in a broken down house inside a chest that they want to learn more about because the meaning and beauty that lies behind the photos is incredible. MY HEART THROUGH AND THROUGH -
WHERE I'M FROM.
I’m a born and raised farm kid who grew up covered in mud with 4 sisters and even more dogs. Home is undoubtedly my biggest inspiration- from family photographs to the landscape to the personalities of the rough-handed farmers I grew up loving. Growing up in the heat of the South helped me learn the overwhelming joy a single little green tomato on a plant you’ve been tending for months feels. How critical it is to grow, to progress, and to preserve. I’m from the middle of nowhere- and that means everything to me.
