There’s a reason why you don’t fill scrapbooks with expensive, perfectly posed, “say cheese” images. Those are for facebook and fancy frames that gather dust in the corner. Instead, a scrapbook should be about sitting on your bed and once more getting to hold onto the things that you can no longer touch. It should make you laugh and cry and say, “Hey, look at this, this is your great-great-grandpa.”
This is about remembering what you didn’t think was worth remembering.

Photography is how we understand and comprehend the immensity of loss, the impermanence of light, of being. Photography is the notion of beauty. Without photography you will forget the brief, seemingly inconsequential, the feeling of sunlight or rain on a particular day, the scratch of your dog's claws, the brush of lips from your soulmate, the look of light flares, and the smell of fresh mountain air. "Before the Camera, the first thing that I noticed about Koda was just how damn comfortable she made me feel. I mean, I'm an uncomfortable person by nature. I don't know how to stand, or how to pose, or even act in these situations. Photoshoots just feel so unnatural normally. I can actually feel my skin in the moment, but she made me feel safe. I was able to get out of my head and just enjoy the session with her. I couldn't ask or even think of a better person to be with, and that's just talking about her as a person. After the camera, I realized just how talented she is as a photographer.
