A + D wanted something quiet, private, and intimate focused around love. Love, peace, change, nature, spiritual connection, and life. They invited me down to Asheville, North Carolina to the stunning mountainside home of one of their dearest friends and mentors who would be conducting and officiating the ceremony.
They had spent the morning gathering up their flowers, settling into each others company, and preparing that most amazing vegan food I’ve ever seen. As A had her hair gently curled and brushed by her mentor they discussed their travels around the world, their spiritual values, plans for their community work, how they want to give back to those around them, and their giddy excitement for the ceremony.
We were all overcome with the weight of our being there, with the beautiful connections, with the humanness of the day.
A+D quietly got ready in the spacious guest house, laughing and talking with each other in between getting dressed and A putting on her make-up. I drifted between deep talks and silently documenting, thriving in the gentleness of the day.
After an incredibly impactful ceremony with incense, gentle prayer, and partaking in plant medicine we made the short walk over to the waterfall where the ceremony would take place.
A decided to slip off her shoes and ground herself with the earth and water beneath her feet. They stood in the waterfall and said their vows and shared a swoon-worthy dizzy kiss.
It was all laughter after that. We all giggled and wandered back to the front yard where just the three of us celebrated their first new moments as a married couple. They danced, laughed, admired their rings, shared stories with me from their time falling in love, shared with me their goals for their future, and sat in tender silence.
Then, they quietly retreated back to the guest house and I packed up before hopping in my pick-up truck and heading back to Tennessee.
