I’ve been thinking a lot about milage Milage on my truck It’s practically brand new. I worked 3 jobs and bought it by myself. When I take it to get the tires changed they tell me I have the most miles on a new truck that they’ve seen. I feel guilty. I’m running out the warranty. I’m decreasing the value. It’s getting too used too soon. But, those miles Those miles let me run alone though the Pueblo Acoma and cried with total abandon in the New Mecio sun. I’ve been at total mercy of the kindness of strangers. I’ve been humbled by the mountains. I’ve drifted in the desert I’ve woken up to watch the sunrise over the Arizona highway Fell in and out of love Been windswept and tumbled and lost and found and on the precipice and twisted between human notions and conceptions I’ve flourished in Tennessee Mountains and trekked through those rivers And, I’ve remembered that it ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive.
So, I’ll keep putting heavy miles on this truck, on myself, my pockets can be shallow and my heart can be full and my photo albums over flowing.
